She has lived as a transgendered woman since 1963, at a time when she had to carry around a letter from a psychiatrist to avoid arrest. She worked as a Church secretary in the early years of Portland’s Metropolitan Community Church. She wrote for some of Portland’s first gay newspapers in the 1970’s. During the 1980’s and early 90’s she performed at the legendary nightclub Darcelle XV. In 1987 Paula began her public access television program. She has since appeared on numerous national and international television and radio shows as well as being featured in People Magazine. Paula lives on a fixed income and receives no financial compensation from the ministry.
